Notice the near absence of articles about ocean pollution. Such studies are rarely done. And when they are they are mis-aimed. As an example, the very few studies done on ocean pollution from the Fukushim nuclear meltdown disaster were aimed at quantifying the non-persistent Cesium-137 and ignored the more persistent discharges such as plutonium isotopes, some of which have a half-life in the many thousands of years. So far as I'm aware only one study was published showing that the pollution was nearing the Oregon/California Pacific coast. (that ended the publication of such studies.) Fortunately, Greenpeace has taken up the issue of ocean pollution with plastics. But so far as I'm aware no one has taken up the issue of other toxic pollutants. And we've had centuries of using our rivers and oceans to dispose of toxic substances.
